Filipino Martial Art (FMA) - Kali/Silat
A comprehensive Filipino training method that seems weapon based but is truly an empty hand system.
Service Description
Dating back to a time in the USA as far back as 1500’s, Filipino Martial Art (FMA) has been beneficial to people of all walks of life. Developed for “mass attack” and single opponent confrontations, the training heightens a students awareness of their surroundings and teaches them to use their environment for self defense. This intuitive and comprehensive martial art training method hails from the Philippines and is weapon based, but ultimately an empty hand system. The FMA curriculum at The Welch Experience (TWE) primarily draws from a body of material Guro Sule Welch has been taught by his teacher and mentor Magulang Na Guro Dan Inosanto has shared his experiences from 26 primary influences, including but not limited to the late Grand Masters: Juanito La Coste, Leon Giron, Angel Cabales, Floro Villabrille, Jack Santo, Regino Ellustrisimo, and Max Sarmiento. The TWE program introduces training methods from 11 of 12 main areas, including: single stick, double stick, stick & dagger, double dagger, flexible weapons (sarong, scarf, tabak-toyok), panatukan (Filipino boxing), Sikaran (Filipino kicking methods), Kuntao & Silat. Everyday objects, such as umbrellas, books, bandannas, etc., become effective for self-defense in the hands of a properly trained individual. Use of left and right hand techniques develop coordination, proprioception and enhance neural networks in the brain. The drills and techniques teach students to flow and be unrestricted while enhancing their natural attributes and improving their timing, speed, awareness, balance, agility, and confidence. No prior experience is required and EVERYONE benefits.
