In 1980 Sule gained his first exposure to
martial art training under the guidance of 'Mr. Thomas' and their
relationship continues to grow. In 1989 Sule earned 1st Dan black belt
under Master Thomas. Master John Thomas has been recognized by, "Who's
Who In Martial Arts," as a competitor, teacher and his notable
accomplishments include but are not limited to: 6 years training Navy

Open Sparring championship. Addtionally Master Thomas holds the world

In 1989, in search of Wing Chun training and "the best person to
cultivate and teach trapping ability"(book reference by Guro Dan
Inosanto), Sule ernolled at the Francis Fong Wing Chun Academy in
Atlanta, GA. Sule earned a black sash in Wing Chun under the
guidance of Sifu Fong in 2006. Over this 17 year period, and to this day, Sifu Fong's influence has built upon and further influenced the foundation for the unique blend of martial art training
that has shaped Sule into a versitile student and
instructor. Sifu Francis Fong has over 30 years
experience in Wing Chun Kung Fu and is considered one of the finest
Wing Chun instructors in the U.S.A. Beginning his study under Sifu Jiu
Wan in Hong Kong (1965), he moved to the United States in the early
1970's. In 1973, he traveled to New York, relocating two years later to
Atlanta, GA and soon opened he opened the Francis Fong Wing Chun
Academy, later to become the Francis Fong Martial Arts Academy.

In 1980's Sule read many books by Guro Inosanto and the Tao of Jeet
Kune Do by Sijo Bruce Lee. Inspired by his research, Sule traveled in 1989 to meet this author and martial artist at the
Southeast Martial Arts Conference in Atlanta, GA where he also met, Sifu Fong, & Ajarn Chai. The conference inspired Sule
to study Wing Chun, Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipino Martial Arts and move to Atlanta in 1990. Leading up to and post Apprentice
Instructor certification in 2004, Sule has continued to study with guidance from Guro Inosanto.
Known as a world authority in Bruce Lee's Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do
Concepts and Filipino martial arts, Guro Inosanto has over 40+
years experience in martial art and is considered one of the
world's greatest living martial artists! Originally introduced to
Okinawa Te & Jiu-Jitsu in Stockton, California, Guru Dan began Judo
training with Duke Yoshimura. After his discharge from the military
(Paratrooper - 101st Airborne) he moved to Los Angeles in 1961. There,
Guro Dan began training with Ed Parker "Father of American Karate,"
and earned a black belt in Kenpo. Guro Dan's tireless research
into the arts of Filipino culture began with his father, who introduced him to
Escrimadors of his own community. Three of the most notable, at
that time were: Max Sarmiento, Angel Cabales, and Johnny Lacoste. In
1964, during Ed Parker's International Karate Championship, Guro Dan
was asked to escort a guest, "Bruce Lee". The request would spark a life long friend/student/teacher relationship.
"People still try to define 'Jeet Kune Do' in terms of distinct
style, i.e. Bruce Lee's Gung-Fu, Bruce Lee's Karate, Bruce Lee's
Kick-Boxing or Bruce Lee's Street Fighting, etc...To label 'Jeet Kune
Do' as "Bruce Lee's martial art", is to miss the meaning completely;
its concepts simply cannot be confined within a system. To understand
this, a martial artist must transcend the duality of the "for" and
"against" and reach one unity that is without distinction. The
understanding of Jeet Kune Do is a direct intuition of this unity.
Truth cannot be perceived until we have come to full understanding of
our potential and ourselves. According to Lee, knowledge in the martial
arts ultimately means self-knowledge." - Guro Dan Inosanto

In 2002 Sule witnessed the genius of Jean
Jacques Machado at the Inosanto Academy - Legends Camp.
Although Sule's training regimen included Jiu-Jitsu before Legends Camp, Jean Jacques' humility, technique, and
talent showed another side and continues to shape the value Sule
places on solid Jiujitsu fundamentals for fitness and martial art training.
Jean Jacques Machado is 1 of 5 brothers of the world renowned
Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu family and nephew of Carlos Gracie (Gracie Jiu-Jitsu founder). Jean Jacques began his Jiu-Jitsu training 20+ years ago. He dominated the competitive arena of Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu in his native country, capturing every major title and
competition award from 1982-1992. In 1992 Jean Jacques arrived
in the US to continue his competitive success. Dominating
the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene in both US and International
competition, Jean Jacques is one of the most admired and respected
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world for his outstanding
fighting and competitive accomplishments, as well as technical,
teaching and coaching expertise.
In 2004 on a first visit to Brasil for a Capoeira event, some Capoeiristas (i.e. 'Malandro' & 'Come-Come') from California introduced
Sule to a man ('Muriel') at the airport. Muriel offered Sule a place to
stay overnight after learning from a translator that Sule's hotel reservations fell through.
Little did either man know the airport meeting would begin a student/teacher/friend relationship. The two kept in touch through
training events, e-mails and used translators until Sule's second visit
to Brasil (2006). During that visit Sule learned more about
Contra-Mestre Muriel's vision for bringing his Capoeira work to
Atlanta. Contra-Mestre Muriel trained in Capoeira for over 14 years in
Sao Paulo, Brasil under the guidance of Mestre Suassuna (Founder:
Groupo Cordao De Ouro). Today Muriel has graduated and holds the title
'Contra-Mestre' in Capoeira. Contra-Mestre Muriel spent the last 4
years touring and teaching Capoeira workshops throughout the US and
abroad before settling in Atlanta, GA in 2006. (www.cdoatlanta.org) |
